With the power of Insomnia, I have awaken on today's morrow at 4am. Seeing servers not full, I took my chance and finally entered the legendary world of Archeage and experience, what a great game /s is that.
I played MOBAs. Don't understand why people agree to play with randoms. Or why they religiously watch these. Too much stuff is going under the hood. You don't watch games. You watch items, hero choices, their abilities, ability levels, GPM, creep kills, simply stats. Not the game itself. Fights are so small and so frequent that It's nearly impossible to follow everything that is going on.
Counter Strike and Starcraft on the other hand are much simpler. In CS everything is on the screen. You see the score, player's vision, spectators have wallhack. Item count is limited, terminology is easy to convey. Rounds don't last for an hour, casters can quickly explain used strategy. Similar stuff with SC: 2 players, 2 armies. The bigger one with better positioning, income, decision making usually wins. It all comes down to the execution. For Starcraft requires insane manual dexterity.
Thing is, MOBAs can be appreciated only after you sunk 500+ hours into each of these games. But I know MOBA players that enjoy watching Starcraft, even though they have no intent of ever touching it. And I, even though have only played ~20 LAN games of CS 1.6 back in the day, get the hype and watch tournaments on occasion.
But player interviews are cringeworthy, CS scene minuscule and SC dying rapidly, so with only LoL and DOTA2 left on the field, It'll soon be safe to say that e-sports suck ass.
Hey Mig, have you noticed Life is Feudal? ( http://lifeisfeudal.com/ ) From the Steam videos, it seems they are re-creating Ultima Online in 3D with Mount and Blade style combat system. No levels? Skill cap? Stat cap? Full loot? Terraformable terrain + housing? Death = skill loss. Holy shit, if they will be able to put it all together, it could be very nice. The game is in alpha though, so we've got around a year imho to keep our fingers crossed...
Mig is partially right. The initial game itself is a survival sandbox in order to get everything working properly and that is fine. I'd keep an eye on it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Also, don't forget the cost of 40 dollars for the early access alpha! Yeah!
The topic of whether parents should let their kids play Minecraft is controversial. Many parents believe that the game is a poor quality ripoff. This is not true. The blocky look of Minecraft is the way it was intended to be made. As for the price, it is expensive, but not compared to call of duty, which is around 30-40 dollars. Why would you want to buy an expensive HD graphics cod game that your children will tell you about how many headshots they made, instead of Minecraft, which your child can tell you about the cool stuff they made, even though it's built out of electronic Lego's? Also, if your child is addicted, why don't you just TAKE IT AWAY? Instead of sitting around, listening to them? Also, if you don't like the graphics, then you can download the gsl shaders mod. And to understand Minecraft, you have to play it. I suggest going to the Minecraft wiki, just jump around and you'll get an explanation of how Minecraft works. And if you're tired of listening about killing chickens and such, introduce your sons to redstone. You can learn more about that on the wiki.

ReplyDeleteI think you're both wrong :D
ReplyDeleteMinecraft is a pos , worst game ever. Happy Wheels and Terraria are the best games ever made.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Microsoft paid $2.5 billion for it too, which is insane.....
ReplyDeletewell, id say minecraft as a normal sandbox game may be a bit boring (to me) but the mods more then makes up for it.
